Five time world single sculling champion Mahé Drysdale is not expected to race at the final World Cup regatta in Munich this weekend after a cycling accident.
Drysdale was in collision with a car and was knocked from his bike at a roundabout, sustaining a minor injury to his shoulder when he hit the ground. The single sculler has included cycling in his training and regatta build-up programme as a way to protect his back from a repeat of the injury that seriously affected his 2010 programme.
He is due to have further examinations and a scan later this evening NZ time but Rowing New Zealand Chief Executive Officer Simon Peterson said that although the timing of the accident and injury ahead of the Munich World Cup regatta was disappointing, it would not further affect the Beijing bronze medallist's preparations or build up to the London Olympics beyond this weekend.
He is expected to be back in the boat within four to five days
