International rowing regatta, the Croatia Open 2011 was held over two days (9-10 April 2011) in Zagreb, Croatia. This was the 28th edition if this regatta which is typically one of the first strong tests on the 2000m course at the beginning of the rowing season for most crews from Croatia and neighbouring countries.
A total of seven countries entered their national teams and club representatives for this regatta: Slovenia, Slovakia, Austria, Estonia, Serbia, Turkey and Croatia. Around 1000 rowers competed each day on the standard rowing distance of 2000m. The elimination heats were scheduled for the morning and finals for the afternoon on both days of the competition.
Most of the strong crews chose to go for single sculls and coxless pairs on Saturday and then enter the double sculls and coxless fours on Sunday, to try out different combinations and events.
On the first day of the competition the most interesting races were the single sculls and coxless pairs. The men’s single final included famous Olympic Champion and World Champion Iztok Cop from Slovenia plus three members from the current World Champion men's quad: Damir Martin, Valent Sinkovic and Martin Sinkovic. Also entered was experienced Serbian rower Nikola Stojic and Croatian sculler Mario Vekic. As expected, it was a demonstration of fast sculling with Martin taking gold in dominant fashion over Cop and Valent Sinkovic. With this win Martin repeated the same result that he achieved last year in the same event.
